The combat helmet HJELM from NFM defines a new standard of gear modularity and electronics integration without adding unnecessary excess weight and volume – compared to older systems. Enhanced features for optimization are complemented by a ballistic shell and Koroyd insert, which provide the highest level of protection and comfort available today.
The NFM HJELM helmet series was developed as a ground infantry platform capable of integrating information technologies while simultaneously protecting against threats on the battlefield. The foundation of this system is the internal liner system, which comfortably and securely holds the helmet on the head. This is paired with a lightweight shell made from the highest quality ballistic materials, and every gram of performance is optimized using state-of-the-art processing techniques.
What truly defines the 4th generation helmets is the Edgemount attachment system with the unique Helmet Attachment System Pattern (HASP). Unlike traditional rails and Velcro panels, which have limited attachment options and add material to the exterior of the helmet - hence increasing weight and volume, regardless of whether you attach a device or not - HASP can be integrated only where needed.
Most helmets on today's market are covered with the mentioned Velcro system for attaching ID tags or other patches and equipment such as IFF devices, night vision devices, cameras or flashlights. The joint's strength deteriorates over time with repeated use, so even a Velcro connection that may have been adequate when new can fail over time. Its strength also depends on the compatibility of the counterpart on the attached device, which can lead to unreliable attachment.
NFM HASP replaces stationary Velcro with a structural strap made of high-strength composite materials, providing a stronger and more reliable system across the helmet's surface. Devices can now be mechanically attached without fear of connection failure. HASP is also removable, so it can be easily replaced even in the field if damaged.
Most third-generation helmets use a rail system to attach additional equipment to the helmet. Rails are heavier and mean more material, thus volume and weight, than necessary when attaching fewer devices – which often happens. The patented NFM Edgemount system offers flexibility for attaching only the accessories that are required. So if you only need a flashlight for a particular task, that is the only attached hardware.
Edgemount also provides means for integrating cabling and connectors inside the helmet for sensor technologies. This gives soldiers and technology manufacturers the flexibility to optimally configure technologies while protecting cabling and connectors from damage or the danger of snagging on surrounding objects if placed on the outside of the helmet.
The Koroyd tube system minimizes the energy transferred to the head upon impact, as the tubes instantly deform on impact, absorbing maximum force in a controlled manner. This unique behavior helps protect the skull and brain from impacts, thus safeguarding the lives and health of users.
Air continually flows inside through open cells, while heated air from the head can easily escape, ensuring effective cooling and breathability even in the most adverse conditions.
The Koroyd system consists of tubes with the thinnest walls in the world, making the protective layer 95% air. This reduces weight and increases comfort without compromising safety. You can determine your helmet size based on the measured values according to the image below. Choose the smallest size that fits your length and width, but remember to leave a few extra millimeters to avoid the helmet being too tight and also take into account what you want to wear under the helmet.
