Leatherman® was founded in 1983 in Portland, Oregon by Timothy S. Leatherman. He started to cooperate with Steve Berliner to develop multi-tool named Pocket Survival. The company nowdays produces over thirty products including other universal tools or knives. 

Leatherman® knives are made from high-quality stainless steel. 420HC steel is widely used, which compare to standard stainless steel has higher carbon content. The knives come very often with sheaths, which are MOLLE system compatible.
