Semi-automatic rifle DD4 RIII S — Daniel Defense® — 11.5" (.223 Rem.)

The DD4 RIII S — added to the Daniel Defense^® DD4 family in 2022 — builds on the AR-15 platform with a number of user-focused enhancements designed to improve ergonomics, handling and adaptability.

Fully ambidextrous controls

The DD4 RIII S features a fully ambidextrous lower receiver tailored for both right- and left-handed shooters. Ambidextrous fire selector, magazine release and bolt catch allow the operator to maintain a firing grip while manipulating controls, supporting faster, instinctive operation in dynamic use.

Purpose and use

Primarily intended for tactical and defensive roles, the DD4 RIII S is also well suited to dynamic shooting sports such as IPSC and IDPA. Its compact dimensions and user-centric controls make it versatile across duty, competition and training applications.

SOCOM-derived handguard

The RIS III handguard retains the mounting philosophy developed for SOCOM requirements while updating the interface: the earlier four Picatinny section layout is replaced with M-LOK attachment points to reduce weight and increase modularity. The free-floating handguard is secured to the upper receiver with a multi-screw system and reinforced inserts, and support for legacy attachments (including M203 where applicable) is preserved.

Barrel and operating system

The DD4 RIII S is fitted with a cold-hammer-forged government-profile 11.5" barrel with a chrome-lined bore and chamber for extended service life and corrosion resistance. The rifle uses a carbine-length gas system with a pinned low-profile gas block (direct impingement), a configuration chosen for reliable cycling and predictable recoil characteristics.

Ergonomics and furniture

As with other Daniel Defense rifles, the DD4 RIII S ships with an ergonomic Daniel Defense buttstock and pistol grip for familiar, comfortable handling. The rifle’s controls and layout prioritise rapid manipulation, secure cheek weld and consistent sight alignment.
