The FKMD brand is an abbreviation for Fox Knives Military Division, which is a division of the Italian company Fox Knives, primarily focusing on tactical knives and tools. It has been operating for more than 40 years.
While Fox Knives was founded in 1977, it started focusing on tactical equipment 5 years later. This was in response to increasing demands from the Italian army, which was then operating in Lebanon. Since then, Fox Knives has functioned as a reliable supplier to various military units in different countries around the world, including special forces, which require highly efficient and functional tools for their operations.
To achieve greater transparency and a clearer separation of civilian and tactical product lines, the company established the FKMD brand, Fox Knives Military Division, in 2005. Before that, Fox Knives became an official NATO supplier with the N/CAGE code AG180. Later on, it received the ISO 9001 quality manufacturing certification, thanks to its qualified personnel and innovative technologies and production processes.
Currently, it is a modern manufacturing enterprise built on traditions. It remains a family business, founded by Oreste Frati as "Frati Oreire eXport." Today, nearly 50 years later, the company is still led by his son Gabriele, with significant help from other family members. It is also noteworthy that Fox Knives was established in the Italian town of Maniago, which has been renowned for its metalworking industry for centuries.
Some products in the FKMD range can boast a NATO Stock Number (NSN), allowing them official use by NATO member forces. This is a 13-digit standardized number recognized by all members of the North Atlantic Alliance. Many FKMD projects are developed in collaboration with large companies operating in the military and rescue markets.
