The Škorpion is a legendary Czechoslovak submachine gun designed by engineer Miroslav Rybář at the turn of the 1950s and 60s. It was introduced into service at the beginning of the 60s.
Thanks to the good controllability of the Škorpion vz. 61 submachine gun, high rate of fire (automatic versions), and the ammunition used even with a short range, the Škorpion vz. 61 is suitable for combat in enclosed spaces and at short distances.
The simple construction and truly compact dimensions have guaranteed the Škorpion worldwide popularity. Besides the Czech and Slovak police and military, it is also used by police forces in many other countries. The Škorpion was also used by Ho Chi Minh's personal guard.
The Škorpion vz. 61 was originally an automatic weapon, now offered as a self-loading weapon with an unlocked dynamic bolt. The Škorpion vz. 61 has a fixed barrel with six grooves. The barrel is seated in a receiver case made by stamping from sheet metal. The receiver case has two vertical protrusions on the sides as handles for charging the weapon. The gun fires from the front position of the bolt.
Aside from the modification of the firing mechanism from automatic to self-loading, the weapon retains the technical parameters and excellent characteristics of the original police/military version. The modified Škorpion differs from the basic fully automatic version by the inability to fire in bursts. The mode selector on the left side, which also serves as a manual safety, now has only the positions secured and single shots.
The Škorpion vz. 61 stands out for its especially simple and reliable operation and, considering the possibilities of the used ammunition, also relatively high accuracy of fire up to 150 m. Among Czechoslovak weapons, it is also known for its legendary ease of disassembly, exceptional durability, and long lifespan of all main parts.
The self-loading Škorpion is ideal for various modern sports shooting disciplines and can also be used effectively for protecting life, health, or property.
