The Czech manufacturer OutdoorKWAK builds on a long-standing tradition of producing sleeping bags and other outdoor equipment in Liberec. Today, they continue to manufacture hand-sewn sleeping bags (primarily), each of which is unique because of this.

The company OutdoorKWAK was founded on the foundations of the post-revolutionary company Alka, but the tradition of custom sleeping bag sewing in Liberec is much older. Mrs. Jana Červenková discovered a market gap as early as 1969, when she began hand-sewing sleeping bags for her own needs and those of her friends. She responded to the unavailability of quality outdoor equipment at that time.

Mrs. Červenková gradually began to produce sleeping bags for a broader range of customers, which allowed for the establishment of the aforementioned company Alka in 1990. It continued to focus on sewing quality products while maintaining an individual approach to customers.

In 2016, the founder wanted to close down Alka, but this was noticed by Eva Hrstková, who was on maternity leave at the time and bought the know-how from Mrs. Červenková. Despite the change in ownership, the company remains family-operated. However, the name has changed. For nearly a decade, the brand KWAK has been operating in Liberec, specializing not only in sleeping bags but also in premium outdoor clothing.

The beginnings of the KWAK company were truly modest - Mrs. Hrstková sewed sleeping bags in a small attic room of a family house. However, innovations gradually took place, allowing the company to offer its products on a much larger scale today. The innovations also cover materials. While initially the basic Pertex Classic was predominantly used, over time they transitioned to Pertex Endurance and Pertex Quantum fabrics, which are more suitable for sleeping bags. They are more durable and pleasant to the touch.

Since 2018, the fabrics for the production of OutdoorKWAK sleeping bags have been supplied by the company Nanomembrane. This was due to effective marketing and an increase in demand following several radio interviews. OutdoorKWAK thus rode the wave of popularity of locally, non-mass-produced goods. However, the material stocks at that time could not satisfy the growing demand.

In 2019, David Pařízek became a business partner in KWAK, having initially come in just to have one sleeping bag made. The manufacturer also moved to new premises in Vratislavice nad Nisou and hired a new employee, a skilled seamstress who had previously been saving old strollers.

At that time, the company began producing other products besides sleeping bags – various types of clothing, children's sleeping bags or slippers. All of these are custom-made according to customer requirements. Materials-wise, OutdoorKWAK collaborates with the Technical University of Liberec, Faculty of Textiles.

The year 2020 brought exclusive supplies of nanomembrane fabrics from Nanomembrane, and in 2021, a significant step was the registration in the official NATO and UN databases, enabling OutdoorKWAK to supply its products to these organizations. For us, the most important series is Military, which is, as the name suggests, mainly oriented towards military users, as well as enthusiasts of military and survival activities.

In addition to sleeping bags, which remain a core part of the range, OutdoorKWAK now offers children's products (gloves, sleeping bags, or jackets), adult clothing (outdoor jackets and pants, in-bag slippers, or skirts), sleeping bag covers, or hammock blankets. A specialty is the DoubleKWAK sleeping bag, in which two people can comfortably sleep.
