Every year, SHOT Show serves as a glimpse into the direction firearms and tactical manufacturers are heading in the months ahead. This year, Holosun introduced several new products that made their way to the Czech market surprisingly quickly. Some are clearly aimed at competitive and dynamic shooting disciplines, while others focus more on everyday pistol carry or rifle applications.

Rigad’s lineup now includes the new Holosun 407COMP featuring a large window and bold reticle for faster target acquisition, the next-generation 407C-X3 pistol red dot sights, and the RAID rifle weapon light. Each of these products is designed with a different role in mind, showing that Holosun continues to develop solutions for a wide range of shooters rather than focusing on a single use case.

In this article, we’ll take a closer look at what these latest releases bring to the table, how they differ from previous generations, and which shooters are likely to benefit from each model the most.

Holosun 407COMP: A Large Window Built for Dynamic Shooting

A Competition-Oriented Optic Designed for Speed

The name alone already makes it clear where the 407COMP is headed. This is not a traditional compact pistol red dot built for concealed carry, but an optic designed primarily for dynamic shooting, competition use and fast-paced range work. Here, Holosun builds on the older 507COMP platform while offering a simpler reticle setup and a more accessible price point.

The biggest difference becomes obvious the moment you look through the optic. The 407COMP features a noticeably larger window than standard pistol red dots, creating a much more open sight picture during target transitions or rapid draws. The shooter spends less time searching for the reticle while maintaining better awareness of both the target area and the surroundings outside the optic window.

This is exactly where the COMP platform makes the most sense — full-size pistols, PCCs and competition-oriented setups. The large field of view and fast target acquisition become noticeable after only a few shots, especially during dynamic drills and rapid movement between targets.

6 MOA Dot for Faster Target Acquisition

The Holosun 407COMP uses a simple 6 MOA dot without additional selectable reticle patterns. Compared to smaller reticles, the larger dot is much easier to pick up during fast shooting sequences. At short to medium distances, this approach works extremely well because the shooter does not need to spend extra time refining the position of a tiny aiming point and can focus more on speed and transitions.

That is also why larger reticles are commonly found on competition-focused optics. During dynamic shooting, rapid draws or aggressive target transitions, the dot remains easy to track even in bright daylight or while moving.

At the same time, it is worth remembering that a 6 MOA dot is not primarily intended for highly precise shooting at longer distances. On smaller steel targets or compact aiming zones, the dot can begin to cover a larger portion of the target area. That is one of the reasons why the 407COMP is aimed mainly at sport shooting and fast-paced dynamic use rather than precision-focused applications.

Built for Everyday Range Use

The optic housing is machined from durable 7075-T6 aluminum and finished with a hard-wearing protective coating. Holosun keeps the design open and lightweight while still retaining enough material around the window to ensure the optic feels solid and confidence-inspiring when mounted on a pistol.

The 407COMP uses the popular RMR footprint standard, making it compatible with a wide range of pistol platforms and mounting plates. It also features Holosun’s Shake Awake technology, which automatically puts the optic into sleep mode when inactive and instantly reactivates it once movement is detected. Another practical detail is the side-mounted battery compartment, allowing battery changes without removing the optic or having to re-zero it afterward. As expected in this category, the optic is rated IP67 waterproof and remains compatible with night vision devices.

Available 407COMP Variants

Rigad currently offers two versions of the 407COMP:

Both models share the same construction, controls and reticle size, differing only in reticle color. The red version feels slightly more universal and remains the longtime standard many shooters are already accustomed to. The green reticle, on the other hand, often appears more pronounced in bright daylight and can be easier to pick up in peripheral vision for some users.

In practice, the choice is usually less about which option is objectively “better” and more about personal preference and what works best for the individual shooter.

The New X3 Generation: Holosun 407C-X3

A Modern Evolution of Holosun’s Classic Pistol Optic Platform

While the 407COMP is clearly built with competition and dynamic shooting in mind, the new 407C-X3 series moves back toward the role of a versatile everyday pistol optic. It still follows the familiar open-emitter micro red dot concept, but in a more compact package better suited for full-size handguns used for concealed carry, regular range training or duty setups.

The redesigned X3 housing immediately catches the eye. Compared to previous generations, the optic features a more aggressive profile with a distinctive hooded upper section that gives the entire design a more modern appearance without adding unnecessary bulk. Despite the updated look, the optic still remains lightweight and compact enough for practical daily use.

At the same time, Holosun keeps the proven RMR footprint standard, so compatibility with modern pistol platforms and mounting systems remains as broad as ever.

Solar Failsafe and Smart Everyday Functionality

The 407C-X3 series also brings Holosun’s Solar Failsafe technology, with a solar panel integrated into the top of the optic housing. Besides serving as a backup power source, the system also helps automatically adjust brightness levels based on surrounding light conditions. In real-world use, that means less time spent manually tweaking settings and a smoother shooting experience when moving between different lighting environments.

Like other current-generation Holosun optics, the X3 models also feature Shake Awake technology. After a period of inactivity, the optic automatically enters sleep mode to conserve battery life. The moment movement is detected again, the sight instantly powers back on using the previous brightness setting.

Combined with an efficient LED system and a CR1632 battery, overall battery life reaches tens of thousands of hours. For most shooters, that translates into an optic that can simply stay mounted, stay ready and require very little day-to-day attention.

A 2 MOA Dot for More Precise Shooting

Unlike the competition-focused 407COMP, the 407C-X3 uses a finer 2 MOA dot. The smaller aiming point covers less of the target area, allowing for more precise shot placement at extended distances. The difference becomes especially noticeable during slower, more deliberate shooting where finer reticle control matters more.

That smaller dot is also what gives the 407C-X3 a more versatile overall character. It still handles close-range work and rapid shooting comfortably, but it does not feel as heavily specialized toward pure dynamic competition use as the 407COMP.

X3 Reticle Variants

The new X3 generation is currently available in several versions:

🔴 The red version remains the most universal option and continues to be the longtime favorite for many shooters.

🟢 The green reticle often appears brighter in daylight conditions and can be easier to track during faster weapon manipulation and dynamic shooting.

🟠 The gold variant offers an interesting alternative, especially for shooters with astigmatism or for those who simply do not feel comfortable using standard red or green reticles.

A new 507C-X3 variant with multiple selectable reticle patterns was also shown at this year’s SHOT Show. However, that model is not yet widely available, and the current arrivals at Rigad are based on the simpler 407C-X3 platform featuring a single aiming dot.

Holosun RAID: A Rifle Light Built for Hard Use

1000 Lumens and 80,000 Candela

Alongside its latest optics, Holosun has also introduced the RAID weapon light — short for Rifle Area Illumination Device. From the specifications alone, it is immediately clear that this is not a general-purpose EDC flashlight, but a dedicated rifle light designed for long guns and effective illumination at extended distances.

The RAID offers two output modes: 1000 and 500 lumens. In this case, though, the more important figure is the 80,000 candela rating, which says far more about how the light actually performs. The beam is tightly focused with impressive throw, making the RAID especially effective in open environments, long hallways, outdoor use or situations where positive target identification at greater distance matters.

Rather than flooding the entire area with excessive spill, the RAID concentrates most of its output forward. That focused beam profile gives the light a noticeably different character compared to more universal weapon lights typically optimized for shorter-range applications.

Mounting and Controls

The Holosun RAID is compatible with both M-LOK mounting systems and standard MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rails. The package also includes a remote pressure switch, allowing users to configure the setup according to their rifle platform and preferred control layout.

Operation itself is intentionally simple and intuitive. The light supports both momentary activation and constant-on modes, while switching between output levels remains quick and straightforward without complicated programming or layered controls. In practice, it is exactly the kind of interface that stays easy to use under stress and does not require unnecessary attention during weapon handling.

Despite its performance, the RAID also keeps relatively compact dimensions and low overall weight. That means it does not excessively bulk up the front end of the rifle and still leaves enough room for additional accessories or support-hand placement.

Durability and Power System

The RAID’s body is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and finished with a durable protective coating built to withstand hard use. According to Holosun, the light is rated to handle recoil forces up to 6,500 joules, making it suitable even for more powerful rifle platforms.

Power comes from a rechargeable 18650 battery featuring an integrated USB-C charging port, allowing the cell to be charged directly without the need for a separate external charger. Alternatively, the RAID can also run on two CR123A batteries.

The light is also rated IP68 waterproof, meaning it is built to handle rain, mud and temporary submersion without requiring extra concern about protecting the electronics during normal field use.

Which Holosun Release Makes the Most Sense for You?

This year’s new releases from Holosun clearly target several very different use cases, showing that the brand is no longer focused on just a single platform or shooting style. While the 407COMP is built primarily around speed and dynamic shooting performance, the new X3 generation stays closer to the concept of a versatile everyday pistol optic. The RAID, meanwhile, expands the lineup into the world of dedicated rifle illumination tools.

  • 407COMP — dynamic shooting, competition use, IPSC and PCC platforms
  • 407C-X3 — full-size pistols for concealed carry, training and duty use
  • RAID — AR platforms, PCC carbines and other long-gun setups

And that is exactly what makes the current Holosun lineup interesting. These products do not just differ on paper through technical specifications — each one is clearly designed around a different style of shooting and real-world use. As a result, it becomes much easier to choose a setup that actually matches the way the firearm will be used in practice.

Conclusion: Where Is Holosun Heading This Year?

Over the last few years, Holosun has expanded its portfolio significantly, and it is clear the company is no longer targeting only one type of shooter or a single optics category. The latest releases now cover everything from dynamic competition shooting and everyday pistol optics to dedicated rifle accessories.

The 407COMP will appeal mainly to shooters looking for the fastest possible reticle acquisition and an exceptionally wide field of view. The new 407C-X3 series takes a more versatile approach for full-size pistols and daily use, while the RAID demonstrates that Holosun is now pushing further beyond optics and becoming increasingly active in the rifle accessory segment as well.
