The Swedish tool manufacturer Hultafors has been producing its products "only" since the end of the 19th century, but the tradition of the Hults Bruk forge, where it began making its first axes, dates back much further, specifically to 1697. From this date, we now celebrate the 325th anniversary – which is a fitting occasion for limited edition products, including the 325 Anniversary Axe.
We are now exclusively offering this axe, which commemorates the roots of some of the most traditional Scandinavian companies, also in our shop. Both the design and materials of the 325 Anniversary Axe reference the popular axe models that were created in the Hults Bruk forge in the past.
The axe head is of a classic Yankee pattern, which, along with the Montreal pattern, was brought to Sweden by iron master Ekelund from the USA in the 1870s. In America, he also mastered the then-innovative manufacturing techniques that he began to use in Scandinavia. Axes inspired by these patterns traditionally belonged to the most popular and durable models of Hultafors axes.
As befits a limited edition, Hultsbruk uses the highest quality techniques and materials for this axe as well. The head or blade of the axe is made from high-quality Swedish steel, which axes from the Hults Bruk forge are long-renowned for. Customers can also look forward to a premium, carefully crafted edge that ensures the axe will function for a very long time – and you can subsequently re-sharpen it.
In designing this axe, its designers decided not to reinvent the wheel. Instead, they used proven, classic solutions. For example, the green color of the head is inspired by a range of Swedish Agdor axes from the mid-20th century. The red handle was a distinctive feature of many Agdor models in subsequent decades.
The design inspiration for the axe goes even further back in history. The label on the axe and the shape of the handle draw from the oldest documented axes from the Hults Bruk forge, the appearance of which we know thanks to catalogs from the 1890s. From each era of its history, Hultafors takes the best.
For the production of the 325 Anniversary Axe, premium materials were used not only for the blade. The handle is made from wood called hickory, which comes from the American hickory tree. The vegetable-tanned, full-grain leather sheath comes from sustainable sources and the sheath itself was made in Sweden. With the axe, you also receive a keychain with a commemorative ship nail.
