"Böhler N690C" is a common stainless steel quite similar to 440C steel, it is literally its trade name (which is sometimes called in the German style - "Austrian cobalt steel") and is very popular with knives in South America. The only difference versus 440C steel is that this one contains an additional 1.5% cobalt and is produced in Germany by the company "Bohler Uddenholm." It holds a great edge and is exceptional in corrosion resistance. Both are the same with 440C steel. The steel has decent flexibility and is typically hardened to about 58-59 HRC. It also has excellent abrasive and cutting properties. Today, companies like "Extrema ratio" and "Benchmade" use it in their products. Bohler N690 steel – is literally a copy of 440F steel, which in itself is identical to 440C, only it contains more cobalt (the element ratios are: 1.07% C, 17.0% Cr, 1.5% Co, 1.1% Mo and 0.1% V). It is imported from Switzerland.
