Camouflage Pattern PenCott™ SandStorm Arid™

As the well-known Sir Roland Penrose correctly noted in 1940 (“Good camouflage is a matter of life and death and often determines victory or defeat”). In short, it can be stated that decent camouflage is recognized by its ability to prevent the observer from distinguishing the original shapes of objects (and of course, especially the shapes of people wearing it).

PenCott™ SandStorm Arid™ Camouflage Pattern

Deployment State: This is a camouflage pattern originating from the private company PenCott™, so whoever says so can have it.

The modern battlefield is a very cosmopolitan matter – soldiers from a unit may be in one type of terrain one day, and a few hours later in a completely different one. Ideally, a camouflage pattern must satisfy the requirements in as many terrains as possible. Missions often touch and include two or three completely different areas (for example, jungle, desert, and mountains).

In addition, every soldier will surely agree that even the shortest moment of time that gives them perfect camouflage advantage is often the key factor that determines the success or failure of a mission. It also provides the unit or individual with that often so useful ace up their sleeve. It's certainly no coincidence that the camouflage patterns from the PenCott™ series are called and presented as “critical accessories for your mission.”

Do you feel your camouflage doesn't hide you as well...?

A range of camouflage patterns originating from the PenCott™ line was designed by the legendary Dom Hyde and includes patterns of various types for different areas, always of the “three-in-one” type (i.e., they camouflage you with a slightly different impression and effect up close, from medium distance, and from afar). This is a series of camouflage patterns that again uses proven geometric shapes, but these are more organically acting, uniquely looking, and yet better covering, seamlessly blending into the terrain in action and appearing as today's so well-known and deployed digital camouflage patterns.

Mr. Dom Hyde was interested in the issue of camouflage patterns throughout his life and studied the art of being hidden. It can be said without exaggeration that Mr. Dom Hyde spent his entire life experimenting with various camouflage patterns and their colors, constantly searching for the best and most universal. This resulted in him authoring more than two thousand camouflage patterns that cover everything from military technology: vehicles, people, infrastructure, clothing, ...

Then bet on something from the PenCott™ range!

When Mr. Dom Hyde embarked on the journey that was to lead to the first-class camouflage patterns from the PenCott™ series, he was mainly motivated by the fact that it is necessary to overcome the known limitations of today's standardly still often deployed military and army camouflage patterns. Let's be realistic in this matter – these are things that spoil soldiers' concealment in specific terrain and, since it isn't completely perfect, it can cost a soldier's life.

Dom Hyde came to the unequivocal conclusion that it would require a radical re-examination of the whole problem and bringing an innovative, hybrid design. Here, the tradition of using a certain piece, imitation of other poor camouflage patterns and standard unfinished samples won't solve the problem!

He also decided to take into account the so-called Gestalt theory from the visual psychology of the human mind: people always try to find order around them and look for anything that doesn't fit into their standard understanding and perception of the world. It is enough for the other side to see a small difference in contrast, base color, position, movement, for the mind to feel that something does not fit somewhere and it is already a problem – camouflage fails.

Mr. Dom Hyde, from the very beginning, explored challenges of modern concealment and camouflage of absolutely anything from many perspectives: he naturally started by thoroughly exploring camouflage in natural form. He also explored the ways in which various local organisms camouflage themselves from predators or, conversely, predators, so that no one sees them. He also analyzed current camouflage trends on the market, traditional trends, and also delved into military history to search for and determine the elements that make perfect camouflage perfect.

But that wasn't all. Dom Hyde also had to combine this entire database of data and knowledge about the most commonly seen colors in nature with data and demands of modern battlefields – as modern tactics and strategies also make their own demands logically. All of this was truly and literally a gigantic task – after a few years of work, hundreds and hundreds of “working” camouflage patterns emerged, resulting in several dozen “sharp” samples that were tested in practice. Dom developed such geometry, which is more effective and at the same time more adaptable than anything else that was available on the market in these days.

The thing Dom Hyde ended up with is a breakthrough camouflage pattern that looks very natural in the wild. It is a hybrid digital camouflage pattern that combines false edges, perfectly rendering all shapes invisible here, and additionally, there's the illusion of a 3D effect thanks to the applied texture (hypo-acuity dithering technique). All this adds up to a camouflage pattern that is very complex, works at all distances from the object/person, and overall, it is a camouflage pattern that almost perfectly prevents detection of the wearer from practically any distance. And that is ultimately the purpose of any camouflage, isn't it?

The very first camouflage pattern was called PenCott® GreenZone™ (named as such because it is designed and optimized for warm and tropical areas). Over time (approximately within two years), further variations of this camouflage feature appeared: PenCott® BadLands™, PenCott® SandStorm™, and PenCott® SnowDrift™. They are all currently in active production at several companies.

Is there a reason to choose camouflage patterns from the PenCott™ line?

There are many reasons to acquire them in some form and subsequently deploy them in action:

  • PenCott® camouflage patterns are excellent because they provide first-class concealment at all usual distances of conflict or action.
  • Even up close, PenCott® camouflage patterns cover you incredibly well.
  • PenCott® camouflage patterns also conceal you in multiple environments at once.
  • Compared to common camouflage patterns on the market, PenCott® camouflage patterns are not a step, but a generation ahead.
