Polartec® Power Fill® is a synthetic insulation designed as an alternative to natural down. Its objective is to provide high thermal performance at low weight and bulk, while offering improved reliability in wet conditions. The material is primarily used in outdoor and performance apparel as well as cold-weather equipment.
Polartec® Power Fill® is a polyester-based synthetic insulation (polyfill), often incorporating post-consumer recycled (PCR) content. Fine fibers create a lofty structure with numerous air pockets that trap warmed air, thereby enhancing thermal insulation.
Power Fill® is engineered to achieve an efficient warmth-to-weight and warmth-to-bulk ratio, allowing garments to remain relatively lightweight and compressible. Compared to natural down, synthetic insulation typically retains its insulating performance more effectively in damp conditions and dries more quickly. Polyester fibers are inherently hydrophobic, meaning they absorb less water and generally dry faster than down when exposed to moisture. The synthetic structure is also designed to withstand repeated use and laundering.
The insulating performance is based primarily on air retention within the lofty fiber structure. Trapped air acts as the key insulating layer, reducing heat loss and helping maintain thermal comfort in cold environments.
Polartec® Power Fill® is a synthetic insulation intended for cold conditions, combining low weight and bulk with reliable thermal performance and practical usability in higher humidity. It is widely used in outdoor and performance apparel and related equipment.
