Black Top Shield®

Black Top Shield^® is a protective blade finish designed to increase resistance to corrosion, surface wear, and unwanted reflections. It is used by manufacturers of tactical and outdoor knives, including the Italian brand Fox Knives.

The coating is engineered to extend blade service life while maintaining functional reliability in demanding conditions.

How It Differs from Other Blade Coatings

Compared to highly wear-resistant DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coatings, Black Top Shield^® generally offers slightly lower surface hardness but at a more accessible price point. In comparison with conventional Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coatings, its real-world durability is often higher.
