So let's analyze this topic a little more comprehensively and focus on the possibilities that today's market offers and what are the advantages and disadvantages of individual solutions.

If we are talking about personal safety, it is not only about protecting your person in the event of a direct threat, but we can also include the protection of property, loved ones or pets in this category. The range of options on how to protect yourself and your surroundings is endless in the market, knowing about it is more complicated, so let us introduce a few options that can bring us an indisputable advantage in specific cases and prevent major damage to health or property.

Personal safety

For your personal safety, or self-defense, there are many products on the market that are directly intended for this. But which one to choose? How complex is the manipulation? Where and how to carry the product? Can its use endanger me in any way?

Pepper sprays

Almost everyone knows pepper sprays. It is an effective defense device that is supposed to (temporarily) paralyze the attacker due to intense irritation of the eyes and respiratory tract. Such impact can cause intense coughing, tearing, burning, but also vomiting. That irritation is caused by a substance called 'capsaicin' (chili lovers are certainly familiar with it).

It is necessary to be careful about their direct use and weather conditions (especially with aerosol types).

Pepper sprays are also very effective self-defense against aggressive animals (you can especially buy pepper sprays intended for intimidating dogs and or even bears).

Stun guns and tasers

The stun gun works on the principle of discharging an electric current in a short time causing temporary muscle paralysis of the attacker/opponent. It is capable of producing a high electric discharge in the order of hundreds of thousands of volts based on a low input voltage.

Basically, we will find products on the market designed for close contact (stun gun) and long-range (tasers - but you can't get them legally here). However, a certain form of 'remote' stun gun available in our country can be electric batons, the disadvantage of which is that they are unwieldy due to their size.

A stun gun is one of the most effective means of defense.

Telescopic batons

Effective and efficient defense product. However, it is very important to choose a telescopic baton wisely. There are many sellers of both high-quality and low-quality products on the market, so it is advisable to think carefully about the scope of your 'investment' options and the type, length and added functionality (lamps, tips, grips, etc.)

In many cases, the telescopic baton also works as a psychological weapon, when after 'pulling' it, the attacker in question can think twice about their next move. However, we definitely cannot recommend using this tool without the basic skills to handle this tool, as it can turn from a defensive tool into an offensive tool if used incorrectly.

Personal alarms

One of the less known passive protective devices are personal alarms. We certainly don't need to introduce you to the term alarm, but not everyone is familiar with personal alarms, which have the task of alerting your surroundings with a strong sound signal and of your possible emergency status.

Personal alarms can also be combined with other means of defense. One of them is, for example, a pepper spray.

There are also many types and types of personal alarms, and we can meet sound alarms on the market (various forms of pendants, bracelets, etc.), but also a combination of alarms with other means of defense, such as pepper spray, or localization functions, when in the event of triggering the alarm, an integrated unit sends your current location to a preset emergency contact.

Tactical pens and kubotans

A tactical pen is one of the practical defense products and it does not require any special skills to carry or use it.

Tactical pens, defensive pens, etc. are a type of product that combines practicality (i.e. a really functioning writing pen) and defensive capabilities, where the pen's design enables effective defense. How does it work? Simply. The shape of the tip of the pen is adapted to self-defense (for example, a larger rounding radius), when it is used forcefully on various parts of the body, a large force is exerted on a small point, and with a good hit, the opponent can cause considerable pain and even short-term paralysis (nerve points, soft tissues, etc.).

The advantage of this means of defense is its consistency and practically it can be carried 'ready' for use at all times.

A kubotan is a type of defensive device using the same principle (yes, a tactical pen practically becomes a kubotan when used in self-defense).

Like personal alarms, tactical pens/kubotans can be combined with other functions such as a flashlight.

Gas weapons

A special category of defense means. These are expansion weapons suitable for self-defense, starting fire and setting off pyrotechnics. They are category D weapons, i.e. they can be sold from 18 years of age. For self-defense purposes, there are cartridges for gas weapons in the following types: alarm, pepper and nerve agent. The alarm/acoustic rounds are only accompanied by a sound effect after the shot, the pepper rounds are a form of aerosol after the shot, and the nerve-paralyzing ones contain the substance CN Chloracetophenon, which temporarily paralyzes a person (which practically means unconsciousness). In addition to the active substances, the psychological effect on the attacker is also very significant. BUT!

At first glance, gas guns are very similar to real firearms.

We recommend that you consider this type of self-defense very much, for the reason that gas guns are in many cases a very faithful copy of real firearms and there is a chance that a gas gun can 'provoke' the holder of a real gun to action in a tense situation.

On the contrary, gas weapons in combination with acoustic cartridges are suitable and recommended for practicing safe handling of the weapon, the 'habit' of shooting and the behavior of the weapon when fired.

Whichever defense you choose, we definitely recommend studying their use and possible variations or combinations taking into account your abilities. Users with experience in self-defense will likely choose batons and tactical pens, where their effectiveness increases in direct proportion to the ability to handle these tools. For regular users, it will be closer to using pepper spray or a stun gun. Do not be afraid to consult with the seller before the actual purchase.
