As the name itself suggests, the L129A1 UK 16" semi-automatic rifle / caliber .308 Win from LMT Defense is a reference weapon, closely approximating the L129A1 weapon system adopted in Great Britain. The L129A1 stood out among competitors with significant brand names. It is an exceptional sharpshooting rifle of Great Britain.
Lewis Machine and Tool Company (LMT) is an American arms manufacturer founded by Karl Lewis in 1980. LMT is a manufacturer of various weapon systems, including the M4 carbine variant and the M203 grenade launcher. LMT products are used by armed forces in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Estonia and the United States. LMT previously manufactured forged receiver covers for FAL rifles as a subcontractor for DS Arms.
LMT is often referred to as a member of the Big Three. This refers to a group of three companies that offer the highest quality factory-made service rifles based on the AR-15 in the USA. The other two companies are considered to be Noveske and Knight's Armament Company.
Need to hide the flash or reduce muzzle rise when firing? The patented design of the SureFire Warcomp muzzle device provides the best features of both devices. Warcomp excellently reduces flash and significantly lowers muzzle rise. These features help hide your position, maintain your night vision and keep the weapon on target even during quick successive shots. Warcomp effectively eliminates over 98% of muzzle flash, even on rifles with a short barrel.
SureFire Warcomp also contains a platform for mounting a sound suppressor with a Surefire interface. In our region, this includes B&T suppressors. The DLC surface finish provides maximum protection in challenging conditions and facilitates cleaning even after extreme use.
LMT barrels are designed specifically for LMT's monolithic handguard. The barrel is equipped with a low-profile gas block. A mid-length direct gas tube is used. The stainless steel barrel is cryogenically treated.
LMT developed the monolithic handguard (Monolithic Rail Platform - MRP). It's nothing less than a handguard and upper receiver made from a single piece of aluminum. The handguard features Picatinny rails at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions. This design provides the weapon with incredible rigidity and toughness while maintaining a free-floating barrel.
The handguard is also equipped with a quick-change barrel system. The manufacturer states that there is minimal shift in aim when swapping barrels. The barrel swap can be carried out in field conditions in an unbelievable few minutes using the included tool. The L129A1 handguard is equipped with QD sling slots at the beginning and end of the handguard on both sides of the weapon.
The L129A1 UK 16" semi-automatic rifle / caliber .308 Win LMT Defense is equipped with ambidextrous controls. This means that right-handed shooters, left-handers, or even right-handers from an opposite stance can easily operate the magazine catch, fire mode selector and charging handle. And that's not all!
The magazine catch on the left side of the weapon is lowered, so a left-hander can easily press it with the index finger, which not all ambidextrous magazine catches can do. This solution is especially appreciated by left-handers with larger hands. Simultaneously, this button has an elevated guard, which is appreciated by right-handers, as it prevents accidental pressing of the button against equipment, avoiding unintended ejection of the magazine from the well. Members of a certain unnamed Legion could tell us more about that.
LMT rifles are designed for harsh environments and rough handling. However, at LMT, they are well aware that even in this use case, an accurate shot requires a trigger with a good and smooth action. At the heart of every MARS weapon system is one of the best two-stage triggers installed in service-ready weapons. At LMT, they named this trigger AXLE. It’s a family of trigger systems based on a patented design.
This involves combining the following key features: trigger components manufactured using highly precise wire EDM cutting, the new geometry of the hammer catch, and a free axis of the triggering mechanism. The standard AXLE trigger features a pull weight of approximately 4.5 lb (about 2 kilograms), with a smooth, clearly detectable action and a short reset. The trigger is protected in the body of the weapon by an enlarged trigger guard, which provides good control both in tactical and winter gloves.
The LMT SOPMOD stock is preferred by USSOCOM operators. That's where its name comes from. The stock is made of durable polymer, has a rubberized non-slip butt pad, and an improved shape and angle that ensures a more natural and comfortable cheek weld. Additionally, it contains two waterproof storage compartments for batteries, small items or accessories. A pleasant bonus includes QD sling slots on both sides.
